On September 28, 2006 Robert Skinner passed away after a valiant 6 year battle with Cancer. The Summer of ’06 was a very rough time for Robert but one thing that kept him going was his love for racing. Particularly his love of his son Bobby racing. July 4 th weekend, the same weekend as his 67 th birthday was the last time Robert was physically able to go to the races in person. He was there with his two sons and two of his grandchildren. Pat, his wife of 47 years was home keeping one of the other grandsons so her boy’s, husband and older grandchildren could go to the races. It as a great symbol of what racing meant to the Skinner family. It was a family thing. It’s what the Skinner’s did and what Robert loved. Although he is now watching down from Heaven, Robert’s spirit will always be with the Skinner family on and off the track. Bobby Skinner Racing is a continuous reminder of Robert’s love for the sport and his wife Pat’s continued support of her son’s racing. During the final months of Robert’s life Hearts Way Hospice of Northeast Texas provided unbelievable care, and support for Robert, Pat and the entire Skinner family. In honor of that support, Bobby’s race car carries a Hearts Way Hospice logo to acknowledge their tremendous efforts in the waning moments of Robert’s life. Robert Skinner was a testament to all the good things racing has to offer. Competition, Camaraderie, Family and Fun. As long as a Skinner is at the races, Robert will be there too. Heartsway Hospice continues to provide invaluable care for terminally ill Cancer patients in East Texas and the Lance Armstrong Foundation continues to race toward a cure for Cancer.
